Cover of Billy the Magnificent Billy stood before a large mirror in his living room, a black top hat upon his carrot-colored head. He was a tall boy with a sprinkle of freckles across his nose, and the hat made him look even taller.

"This magic stuff is easy," he said. He had just mastered his first magic trick. He had been practicing several tricks all morning for tonight was his school's annual talent contest.

Billy's Grandma had sent him a Super Deluxe Magician set for his 7th birthday last month, and he'd been having the greatest success pulling a bouquet of flowers out of the "magic" hat. They weren't real flowers, they were made of paper, and the hat wasn't really magic - it had a secret compartment in the bottom that the flowers were squished into and when you pulled a string the flowers unfolded and looked as if they had magically appeared. "I think I'm ready," Billy said to himself. "I'll call myself - the Magnificent Billy!" he exclaimed with a big grin. "I hope I don't trip and fall flat on my face".
